Alert! Your Jan 19 Senate Vote Will Determine Our Nation's Future

By Len Mead (Un-cut Version!) 1-15-10

Folks,  your January 19th vote for our next Senator will be the most important vote in our country's history.  Why?  You will chose between one candidate who will act to improve our great healthcare system and our economy -- or another who will act to destroy both.

The next Massachusetts Senator will be the last critical vote to support or stop what is being called "Healthcare Reform."  While yes, we all want improved healthcare, just calling the current proposal "Healthcare Reform"  does not make it so. The current bill has become something frighteningly different from its name, which is why a majority of citizens  by any current poll  now say they do not want the "reform" bill being proposed.

"Healthcare Reform" bill advocates admit that the first thing that would happen if it becomes law is immediate tax hikes for ten years to fund health "reforms" that start four years from now.  That's right -- 10 years of higher taxes to fund 6 years of health "reforms!"   The so-called cost estimates are now based on this unreal scheme of taxing for 10 years to fund 6 years of changes.

So friends, in deference to reality I'm now going to call the Healthcare Reform Plan, "Obamacare."

Obamacare backers say it is needed to insure some 30 million citizens who do not have access to healthcare.  But this 30 million figure is preposterous.  Most are really young people who'd rather spend their money on other things than health insurance, individuals between jobs, or illegal aliens.

Further, you know (and I know) that hospital emergency rooms now treat any needy patient who appears regardless of whether they have insurance, can pay or whatever -- including whether they are illegal aliens dropping by to produce another child upon which current laws will bestow US citizenship.

Obamacare advocates say the $500 billion in new taxes will be offset by savings --- but most come from cutting Medicare -- the lifeline for most seniors.  But worse  -- hold your breath -- more realistic estimates by many including the prestigious Heritage Foundation forecast that the true 10-year costs will be over $2.5 trillion!

If passed, a dozen new Obamacare taxes start immediately including a 40% excise tax on higher priced existing health plans and special fees and taxes on insurance, drugs, medical devices and anyone who violates scores of new government mandates.  One of the new mandates is an unprecedented requirement for businesses and individuals to buy health insurance -- which many see as unconstitutional on face.

Dick Morris estimates that if you are insured, you will increasingly have to pay 35 percent more for the privilege.  And if you are uninsured, you will have to pay one-fifth of your income in premiums, deductibles and co-payments before any proposed subsidy kicks in.

Let me ask you, Dear Reader, when you are sick and need care, who helps you get better?  A bureaucrat?  Or a caring physician you know personally who may prescribe drugs to treat your illness or condition that were created by the genius of pharmaceutical companies?

Obamacare  would change all that.  It would legislate how doctors and hospitals can deliver care to you and mandate how much they could be paid  -- as if passing laws could repeal the law of gravity or the laws of supply and demand!  Government rationing of healthcare care would mean possibly losing your current doctor and delaying when you would be treated.

So what senate vote will be in your best interests?   The Democrat candidate will support Obamacare.  The Republican candidate has pledged to stop Obamacare in favor or real healthcare reform to improve the great system we now have -- the envy of the world.

Yes, real healthcare reform is needed, but Obamacare would "throw out the baby with the bathwater."  Republican reform would first include:

1) Legal tort reform to stop frivolous lawsuits which now drive up insurance costs and chase physicians out of the practice.

2) More aggressive efforts to eliminate billions of acknowledged waste and fraud in the current system.

3) Regulation changes to allow nation-wide insurance competition to drive down costs instead of the current restrictions now forcing us to buy just within our state.

Obamacare unfortunately prescribes no "reforms" in any of these critical healthcare areas.

So voters -- especially you senior Democrats -- if you want better healthcare and a stronger economy to fund your social security, vote for (gasp!) the Republican, Scott Brown for senate. He has pledged to stop Obamacare and implement real healthcare reform building on the strengths of our current system.

The Democrat senatorial candidate will inflict Obamacare on us -- which would be hazardous to our health and our economy.  Regardless of your political affiliation, voting Republican this time is the right choice -- for real healthcare reform we all desire and less destructive taxes that will drive our country into a depression.  You can learn more and support Republican Scott Brown for US Senate at brownforussenate.com.

Conservatives ---- EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY!

For moonbats, the end of an era
By Howie Carr  |   Friday, February 5, 2010  |  http://www.bostonherald.com  |  Columnists

To all of you Kennedy groupies out there, go find yourself a grief counselor.

Call the Samaritans. As the sign on the Sagamore bridge says, suicide is not the answer.

This morning, for the first time since January 1953, there is neither a Kennedy nor a Kennedy-family retainer “representing” Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate.

The moonbats are really in mourning now. This was worse than finding out yesterday that their Priuses may be ... unsafe at any speed.

To all you grief-stricken blow-in drifters on Morrissey Boulevard, go home to New York, mix up a pitcher of brandy Alexanders and put some Judy Garland on the stereo. Do not despair - after all, you still have Barney Frank.

Maybe someday you’ll have a new generation of Kennedys to cover up for, to point out how they are turning their lives around after (fill in the blank) a cheating scandal, a drug scandal, a rape accusation, a blonde in the pond, an overturned Jeep on Nantucket, an extramarital affair with a polo player, a drug overdose, a waitress sandwich . . .

Not only that, but yesterday we learned that the last of them in Congress, Patrick “Patches” Kennedy of Rhode Island could be knocked out of office. A new WPRI-TV poll showed him with low 35 percent approval rating, and 62 percent disapproval.

Yesterday was Camelot Emancipation Day. For taxpayers, it was Christmas and the Super Bowl rolled into one.

But before we shout “last call” for the final time, let’s look back at a few of the family’s greatest hits.

Marilyn Monroe, Mary Jo Kopechne and the woman with the blue dot.

Not bothering to learn the names of any other politicians, from Barack Obama (“Why we ask Osama bin - Obama”) to Marty Meehan (“my dear friend Andy Meehan”) to Martha “Marsha” Coakley.

Patches Kennedy talking about “making mends meet,” and “the fundamental process of due process” and his description of how he became what he is today: “I myself have educated myself.”  Ted Kennedy, explaining in 1991 how he was informed that a rape charge was about to be filed against his nephew: “There’s some additional something going on here, vaguely, and it’s going to involve some kind of uh, sexual harassment on Willie on that because I was not ever, ever was told the Palm Beach police wanted to speak to me about an alleged incident of Willie Smith raping some girl.”

“Do you know who I am?”

Joe Kennedy setting one of his sons on fire with illegal fireworks.  So many disasters, so little time. However will we survive here without them?

I’m looking forward to finding out. Somehow I suspect we’ll be able to make mends meet.
